Lo scrittore americano Holly Martins va alla ricerca di un amico misteriosamente scomparso e dato per morto. Scoprirà che il suo funerale è una messinscena e che il suo amico è complice di un misterioso complotto. Un classico del cinema di spionaggio cupo e sinistro come un horror.
