There were over a thousand features films produced during the Third Reich, but only a sixth of them were openly propagandist. In this comprehensive study of Nazi cinema, Erwin Leiser examines the process whereby the German film industry, which in the Twenties had an international reputation for independence and iconoclasm, was gradually converted into a highly efficient cog in the Nazi propaganda machine.
