Abstract/Sommario: Victor Hugo's novel comes to startling life in Raymond Bernard's nearly five-hour epic, featuring the German expressionist-influenced cinematography of Jules Kruger (who shit Abel Gance's Napoléon), a glorious score by Arthur Honegger, and on-location sets by Jean Perrie. This is the first restored version of Bernard's masterpiece to be released in the United States.
