Abstract/Sommario: Come può nel XVIII secolo un ragazzotto irlandese senz'arte né parte diventare membro dell'aristocrazia inglese? Per Barry Lyndon il mezzo c'è: usare tutti i mezzi. Barry è di volta in volta insistente corteggiatore, duellante, vagabondo, soldato durante la Guerra dei Sette Anni, libertino, spia, baro. E, nella sontuosa interpretazione kubrickiana del romanzo di W. M. Thackeray, ogni ruolo è un passo avanti nell'arrampicata al lusso e al privilegio.
