Chiba, east of Tokyo, the present day. Just before the start of the high-school summer break, student Kawashima Izumi (Ikeda Ai) finds a wallet containing ¥300,000 (US$4,000) on the street in a well-to-do neighbourhood. It belongs to Sato Koki (Takayama Tsubasa), son of Sato Kogu, a politican who is also head of Chiba's Horse Racing Association.
