Abstract/Sommario: Hulot progetta un'automobile supermoderna che esporrà al salone di Amsterdam. Il viaggio da Parigi verso l'Olanda è pieno di difficoltà causate dal traffico. Hulot arriva in ritardo al salone e non può esporre la macchina, che comunque suscita l'interesse dei privati che la vedono in strada.

Il distacco è forte e doloroso, anche perché la zia si dimostra totalmente incapace di accudire le nipoti, spesso lasciate a se stesse, affamate o infreddolite. Prima di andarsene, la mamma ha dato alle figliolette un salvadanaio promettendo di essere di ritorno una volta che questo sarà pieno di monetine: per accelerare i tempi, allora, le sorelle cominceranno a vendere cavallette arrostite agli altri bambini, ma presto la zia si stancherà della loro presenza decidendo di portarle a vivere in campagna presso gli anziani nonni.
Nata a Pusan, Corea del Sud, ma cresciuta a Los Angeles, So Yong Kim si dimostra perfettamente in linea con una sensibilità tutta orientale di indagare l'infanzia. Ne sono prova la capacità di soffermarsi sulle piccole protagoniste - i giochi, gli sguardi d'intesa, i piccoli gesti - e quell'amorevole comprensione di cui è intriso ogni minuto della storia. Dopo In Beetween Days, suo esordio premiato al Sundance Film Festival, la cineasta decide di spostare l'attenzione verso la triste esistenza di due sorelline, rimanendo attaccata ai loro corpi e scrutando lo spazio attraverso di esse, senza scadere mai nella ricercatezza stilistica o in certo esasperato rigore che soffoca altre pellicole analoghe. A volerla definire, la vitalità di questo lavoro sta proprio nel saper calibrare emotivamente ogni sequenza, nell'asciugare ogni singolo episodio, nel rimanere sull'oggetto di una ripresa quel poco in più che serve per dargli realtà, ancora, nel voler restare ai margini di una tenerezza lacrimosa, cedendo solo talvolta alla sua attrazione. Un'altra storia girata ad altezza di bambino, certamente, ma soprattutto un film fatto per mostrare quanto il dolore dell'infanzia derivi invero dai grandi, dall'indifferenza e dall'ignoranza di un universo emotivo complessissimo, ma spesso considerato gregario di quello adulto, quasi inesistente.
Favola triste che preferisce un finale aperto alla lacrima oppure al sorriso, Treeless Mountain è il racconto delicato di un difficilissimo e forzato avvio alla vita, il susseguirsi di un insieme di sequenze in cui è palpabile lo stupore dell'infanzia davanti ad ogni nuovo evento (davvero emozionante oltreché realistica la sequenza in cui le piccole guardano la nonna fare la pasta). Interpreti eccezionali di Jin e Bin sono Hee-yeon Kim e Song-hee Kim, naturalissime nella loro interpretazione di due bambine che sanno bastarsi da sole.

Abstract/Sommario: Steve Coogan has been commissioned by a Sunday newspaper to review half a dozen restaurants in the North of England. When his food-loving American girlfriend backs out, Steve is faced with a week of meals for one. Reluctantly, he calls Rob Brydon, the only person he can think of who will be available. Heading north in a stylish black Range Rover, the pair begin a journey of bickering, jokes and reflection.
